Postcards and Trading Cards Together
For many, many years, collectors have sought and, yes, collected
cards - both trading cards and postcards. The trading card got its
start (at least in major appeal) in the sports card world. The
collectible postcard originally was focussed on location and date.
In the collectible card world, there is value for a particular item
when it is either hard to find (rare) or is a part of a complete
collection.
Rarity is purely a measure of how many or few there are, but includes
measures of supply, accessibility, and demand. First question, does the
card exist? Second, can I find one? Third, will the owner be willing to
sell / trade it? Fourth, what will it cost me (and can I afford it?)
The concept of a collection isn't a simple matter either. While a
production company prints groups of cards and may call them a set or a
collection, the collectibles world creates collections based on card
attributes, contents, production history, world events and more. In
other words, a sports card collection may be the production lot of all
players in a certain year. But a subset of those cards make up the
"rookie collection." As a player has cards produced over the
years, a new collection is born.
The ultimate underlying element that card collecting has is the
enthusiasm of the individual and others for the content of the card and
its relationship with other cards.
You can see a new product that combines card collecting - postcards and trading cards - as Collectible-Ads: postcards with embedded trading cards.
