Design - To design a postcard by yourself, you'll need to use a photo design or a publishing program. It will also help to have a set of clipart and image libraries.

Print Your Own - If you are new to the idea of creating postcards and want to try a few yourself, you'll find that you can do a nice job at home or in your office. Pick a color printer that prints "photo" quality images and choose a nice, heavyweight paper. (Note: this will work best for small quantities; you'll save much, in the long run, by using a professional printer for larger jobs.)

Books - There are a wide variety of books that will help you with your postcard designs. You may want to learn about graphic design - it's not what you put on the postcards, but how. You also may want to pick up some tips and tricks on image manipulation, like adding borders and shadows, etc.
(Be sure to look for books specifically written about the digital image manipulation software that you have - these books can be invaluable in learning how to use these very powerful software programs.)
